In December 2016 Spring Housing Association became the housing provider for the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme in the Midlands. We have provided accommodation in Birmingham, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Wolverhampton; and by March 2017 we will have housed 78 families, 200 adults and 142 children.
Spring has set up 2 local offices in these areas and have recruited local people to provide housing related support. We also are using local contractors for maintenance in order to support the local economy and provide our tenants with the best local knowledge. Spring have also made use of community social enterprises when furnishing the houses – including Second Chance in Hereford and Upcycle in Birmingham. Through this program it has been really positive to see the engagement between the tenants and local community groups.
These families are being provided with intensive housing support so that they will be able to manage their own tenancies and to help them integrate into the U.K. Working with partner agencies Spring has been part of an amazing project to resettle refugees displaced by the Syrian conflict.
